Capturing Fish Activity

In this 2nd activity, brought to you by Mrs Kraus and Mr Capaldi's class, students used different types of "hands" to capture fish (golf balls) which were thrown at them. They explored how different hands made the job easier. They tried an oven mitt hand, bare hand and a hand with sticky tape. They then looked at the adaptation of the Osprey's talons for catching fish.

"It looked really hard when people were doing it with an oven mitt or with tape because you could hardly move your fingers. When it was my turn I tried to grab on the ball as hard as I could so it would stay in my hand. When I used my bare hand I could move my fingers and catch the ball easier."

"Osprey catch fish with talons. I don't think that Osprey would be able to get fish with an oven mitt!"
