Raptor Cam Details

Our osprey cam is a wireless system, meaning there are no wires connecting the video camera to the computer that puts images and sound on the Internet.  Mounted on the pole at the Marsh Meadows nest is an infra-red color video camera mounted on a long arm above the nest.  The infra-red camera allows us to view the nest after dark without lights that would disturb the birds. Just below the nest is a small box containing the transmitter that sends the video signal to the receiver located on the roof of the RI Turnpike & Bridge Authority building at the Pell Bridge Toll Plaza.  The solar panel is located below the transmitter.  This unit keeps the battery located under the solar panel fully charged.  The receiver sends the video and audio signal transmitted from the nest to the computer where the images are digitized for use on the Conanicut Island Raptor Project website.  The webcam images you see on this website are almost real time, being delayed only a few seconds.
